About Our Leather

For the past 40 years, Gallery Leather has been handcrafting high-quality leather products. Over the years, we have made leather goods for many of North America's luxury brands, all assembled by hand here in Maine and guaranteed to last for generations. Our imported simulated and European bonded leather's durability and quality are why we choose to use it on our products.

Environmental Aspects

At Gallery Leather, we care about the environment as much as you do. That’s why our bonded leather cover materials are made of at least 70% pre-consumer recycled cowhide leather fibers. This far exceeds the minimum requirement of 50% for Bonded Leather Fibers as established by the International Council of Tanners, the leather industry’s authoritative international body. Thus, the production of our bonded leather cover materials reduces waste that would have gone to landfills.

Certifications and Compliance

Our Bonded Leather cover materials are certified to comply with pertinent environmental, health, and safety laws in the United States by the Leather Research Laboratory of the University of Cincinnati, including:

  • California Proposition 65
  • USA Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)
  • Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemical Substances (REACH)
  • Oeko-Tex® Leather Standard
  • Global Recycled Standard (GRS)
  • Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS)
  • Normal Industry Standards

Caring for Your Leather

Leather is a beautiful, durable material when cared for properly. Our bonded leathers are best cared for through normal handling. Your hands provide the natural oils that nourish most leather. Our bonded leather is tanned with special oils that replace the need to apply any creams or waxes.

Cleaning Instructions

For normal dirt and spills, use a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water and mild detergent. Once clean, dry your leather with a clean towel. Do not use alcohol, cleaning solvents, oils, varnishes, or polishes, and avoid extreme temperatures as these can damage the leather.

Craftsmanship is a way of life in Maine, particularly here on the coast and islands that shape Frenchman’s Bay and serves as the gateway to Acadia National Park. For the past 40 years, Gallery Leather has been part of that rich tradition, handcrafting leather products of exceptional quality. We’re proud that you’ve chosen to be part of this tradition by purchasing one of our products. For more information on our products, please contact us or visit specific product pages on our website.
